St. George Orthodox Cathedral
Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America
Orthodox Christianity in Southern West Virginia

Besides St. George Cathedral in Charleston, an Antiochian Orthodox community of the Diocese of Charleston, Oakland and the Mid-Atlantic, there are six other Orthodox Christian parishes and one monastic community in Southern West Virginia.

Charleston is also home to St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, under the Greek Archdiocese.

To the east is St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Beckley, which is also part of the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic.

A bit further east is St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Bluefield, under the Carpatho-Russian diocese.

To the west is Holy Spirit Antiochian Orthodox Church in Huntington, also in the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic.  Huntington is also home to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, belonging to the Greek Archdiocese.

In Wayne County is the Hermitage of the Holy Cross, a monastic community belonging to the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, which also has a mission community named Christ the Savior Orthodox Church located in the same area.

Together, all these communities represent the ancient Orthodox Christian faith in southern West Virginia, seeking to live out the Christian faith in holiness and to bring the light of the fullness of Christ in Orthodoxy to all in our state.
