Rev. Fr. Alex Mackoul

Cathedral Dean

Father Alex was raised in St. George Orthodox Cathedral in Worcester, MA where he served as an altar boy and a chanter for many years. He grew up attending the Antiochian Village and the many retreats in his diocese. After graduating college, he worked for the Department of Defense as a research psychologist and was given permission each summer to serve on staff at the Antiochian Village. He met his wife Kh. Amanda (Short) during their first year on staff together. After spending three summers on staff, Fr. Alex enrolled at St. Vladimir’s Seminary and served as the Bishop’s assistant for two years.

He married Kh. Amanda at the end of his second year of seminary and was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood at the end of his third year. After graduation he was assigned to St. John Orthodox Church in Memphis, TN, where he served as the assistant priest and youth director. In 2016, he was appointed director of Camp St. Thekla and served in that capacity for seven years.

In August 2018, Fr. Alex was transferred to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach, SC where he spent six years serving the community and teaching New Testament for St Athanasius Academy.

In August of 2024, Fr. Alex began his tenure as Dean of St. George Cathedral in Charleston, WV.
